The GBHS Bright Sparks group, who have been working hard on a university style project entitled “War reporting: Beneficial or harmful”, had a day visiting the University of Sussex near Brighton to see for themselves how a university student’s life differs from that of a secondary school student.
After battling the traffic of the A12 and M25 we arrived on campus slightly later than expected, to be greeted by Lewis, the university’s School Visits Coordinator and Matilda and Asha, two students at the university who are coming to the end of their second year.
Lewis gave us an interesting and insightful talk on life as a university student, we all learnt a lot, including the variety of courses available to study, the vast number of societies and clubs that you can join and not to waste your student loans on fast food!!!
After that, the students split into two groups for a campus tour. They were fabulously led by Matilda and Asha, who showed them all areas of campus and answered a myriad of questions on all aspects of student life.
After a lovely lunch on campus, there was time to drive down to the seafront and spend half an hour relaxing on the beach.
Our students had a wonderful day, learnt a lot and enjoyed a bit of the Sussex coast.
