Academic Study

All students have the opportunity to study either A Levels, vocational courses or a combination of both. We have three pathway opportunities open to students. The pathway they can chose will be based on their 'best 8 scores at GCSEs, including maths and the best English grade'.

If a student has not passed GCSE maths or English, they will be required to resit this when they join the Sixth Form.

Pathway One

36 points or above

Between 36 -39 points, students can access our vocational courses. If their vocational course is equivalent to 2 A Levels they can take one additional course from the options available. The course options would be discussed for suitability.

Pathway Two

40 points or above

If a student achieves 40 points or more, they can take 3 A Levels, or 2 A Levels plus the Level 3 AAQ in I.T: Data Analytics with an option to take Level 3 Core Maths or EPQ as a fourth choice.

Pathway Three

60 points or above

If a student achieves more than 60 points, they can take 3 A Levels and are required to take the EPQ or Level 3 Core Maths as their fourth subject, or they have the option to take 4 A Levels.

Sixth Form Pathways

*An A Level subject can be selected if the minimum GCSE grade has been obtained. For most subjects at GCSE this will be Grade 6 however for biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, Grade 7 is required.

If a student is taking combined science an 8-7 is required.

We require a grade 8 or above for Further Maths.

If a course says that a GCSE grade is required, you will not be able to take this option if you do not achieve the grade required. Due to the range of courses on offer, we have a number of combinations that students can take.
If students have gained 40 points or above they can access both A Level and vocational routes.

For more details of the requirements needed for each subject, please see the course guide.

Course Information

We are constantly responding to changes in education and the courses we offer reflect this.  Below you will find the Option Block Choices for September 2026.

Option Block Choices

SIXTH FORM OPTION BLOCKS 2026

Additional subjects such as EPQ or Netball Academy are timetabled outside of the option blocks so can be selected by a student for September. It is only the Level 3 Mathematics in context that due to the hours has to be restricted to certain option blocks in order for us to offer this.

Please note that in additional to the subjects in our brochure we will also be running a Personal Finance Course that will be one hour a week that students can again select in September. More details of this new course will be given out to students during the Induction day in June and again in September.
