Culture Fair 2026: A Celebration of Culture, Community and Curiosity
Back to Latest News
Our GBHS Culture Fair was a tremendous success, bringing together students, families and staff in one of the most vibrant and inspiring events our school has hosted.
Over the course of the morning, more than 500 Year 7 and Year 8 students visited the fair, exploring an incredible range of cultures, traditions, languages, foods, celebrations and stories from around the world. Armed with their Culture Fair Passports, students travelled from stall to stall, asking questions, collecting stamps and discovering something new about the diverse world in which we live.
The breadth of cultures represented was truly remarkable. Families and students proudly shared aspects of their heritage from:
Australia, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Ghana, Grenada, Greece, Hawaii, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Congo, Romania, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey and Ukraine.
Students had opportunities to learn new words and phrases, discover customs and celebrations, listen to personal stories, view cultural artefacts and, in many cases, sample traditional foods. The atmosphere throughout the morning was one of genuine curiosity, respect and enthusiasm as students embraced the opportunity to learn from one another.
A particularly exciting aspect of the event was the number of students who chose to run their own stalls. More than 70 students dedicated their time and energy to researching cultures, preparing displays, creating activities and sharing their knowledge with others. Their confidence, commitment and passion were outstanding, and they should be incredibly proud of the contribution they made to the day's success.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the many parents, grandparents and family members who generously gave up their time to support the event. Your willingness to share your culture, traditions, food, experiences and stories with our students transformed the Culture Fair from an idea into a truly memorable experience. The warmth, enthusiasm and care shown by every stallholder made a lasting impression on our young people.
"Events such as this play an important role in helping students develop respect, understanding and appreciation for different cultures and communities. The Culture Fair was a wonderful example of our school values in action and demonstrated the strength, diversity and inclusivity of the GBHS community.
Thank you to everyone who contributed. We hope this will be the first of many Culture Fairs and that it continues to grow in the years ahead."
