After a year's hiatus, the much-loved annual charity plant sale returned to Great Baddow High School, thanks to the dedication and hard work of Mrs Burdon and Mrs Williams. Running from April to June, the popular event raised an impressive £1,200, demonstrating the generosity of staff and the continued support for the school's charitable initiatives.

The funds raised have been shared equally between Kids Inspire, Made for More, and the school's Wellbeing Fund, helping to make a positive difference both within the local community and across the school.

Months of Preparation Behind the Scenes

The success of the plant sale begins long before the first plants appear in the staffroom. Each January, Mrs Burdon and Mrs Williams begin sowing seeds in their homes and greenhouses, carefully nurturing hundreds of annual bedding plants and vegetable seedlings over several months.

Their dedication ensures that staff can choose from a wide selection of healthy, high-quality plants ready to enhance gardens and outdoor spaces as summer approaches.

Supporting Charity Through Gardening

The staffroom was once again transformed into a vibrant display of colourful plants, attracting enthusiastic buyers throughout the spring term. Staff enjoyed the opportunity to purchase a variety of plants while knowing their contributions would directly support the school's chosen charities.

The annual event has become a valued tradition, combining a love of gardening with fundraising and community spirit.

Despite the cost of compost, seeds and growing materials having nearly tripled since the first plant sale was launched around 12 years ago, Mrs Burdon and Mrs Williams worked hard to keep prices as affordable as possible. Their commitment ensured that staff could continue to purchase excellent-quality plants while maximising the amount raised for charity.
