On 21st April our deaf students were off timetable to spend time involved in workshops lead by Steven Gardiner from the National Deaf Childrens society (NDCS).

This was a great opportunity to have an adult male deaf role model in school and see how he was supported by his British Sign Language Interpreter for the day to ensure equal access for all.

The workshops focused on technology, who am I, mental health and wellbeing and their future.

They were able to find out more about technology that can support them to be more independent such as flashing/vibrating alarm clocks and doorbells and various equipment to give access to music.

Discussions included the advantages and disadvantages of being deaf plus what support is available for college life and adulthood.
