Funding Reports - Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium, 16-19 Tuition and Covid Catch-up

At Great Baddow High School we have high aspirations for all of our students. We believe that they should all be given the opportunity to flourish and reach their full potential regardless of their background and prior attainment.

Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium Funding

The Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium funding is made available to us to help improve the attainment of our disadvantaged students.

Evidence shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds face extra challenges in reaching their potential and often do not perform as well as their peers.

The Pupil Premium grant is designed to allow us to help disadvantaged students by further supporting their progress and the exam results they achieve.

Schools get Pupil Premium funding based on the number of pupils on-roll who:-

  • are eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been at any point in the last six years.
  • have a parent currently serving in Her Majesty’s Forces or is retired on a MoD pension.
  • have left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order (SCO) or child arrangement order.

It is for us to decide how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent since we are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individuals within our responsibility. We recognise that not all students who are academically and socially disadvantaged are registered to receive funding and we reserve the right to use this funding to support any student or group of students who we identify as being disadvantaged.

16-19 Tuition Funding

A number of individuals were unable to access learning during the restrictions placed in lockdown for a variety of reasons, including technical, emotional and home situations. Eligible students will be those who have been identified as being disadvantaged as per the guidance. Priority will be given to students who have not yet achieved a Grade 5 in Maths or English as these will fundamentally underpin their success at Level 3 courses.

Read the latest Covid-19 Catch Up Report here

The Government COVID-19 catch-up premium has been established to mitigate the effects of the unique disruption caused by coronavirus. The grant will only be available for the 2020-2021 academic year. Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support pupils to catch up for lost teaching time over the previous months.

Overall Strategy Area
Teaching and whole school strategies

Supporting great teaching

Pupil assessment and feedback

Transition support

Targeted approaches

One to one small group tuition

Intervention programmes

Extended school time

Wider strategies

Supporting parents and carers

Access to technology

Summer support

As with all government funding, school leaders and governors must be able to account for how the money is being used. Therefore, the impact and spending strategy for this catch-up premium will be reviewed at every Academy Improvement Board (AIB) meeting throughout the 2020-2021 academic year. When Ofsted re-commence routine inspections, they will make judgements about the quality of education being provided which will include how you are using the funding to ensure the curriculum has a positive impact on all pupils.
