GBHS Swimmers Swim to Success at Essex County Swimming Championships

The first two weekends of the Essex Age Group Swimming Championships 2022 took place last month at Basildon Sporting Village and the London Aquatic Centre. 

We have been delighted to hear from some of our students that qualified for the event and congratulate them all on their amazing performances. 

Vincent C (Year 7) – Competed in the 100m for back and freestyle, placing 9th place in both (reserve finalist) and achieved PB’s in both as well as qualifying for 50m butterfly final. He will compete in the 100m Fly at the next weekend event. Vincent has also qualified for the regional events in 50m/100m fly, 100m Freestyle and 50m/100m/200m backstroke.

Lucy C (Year 7) - Qualified for the finals of the 50m fly, backstroke and freestyle and took home a bronze in the 50m fly and won the 200m fly to become County Champion in her age group.  

Cait C (Year 9) – Won gold and is now an Essex champion, with a 9 second PB, in the 400m IM, breaking an 18 year old club record and silver in 200m fly with a 3 second PB breaking an 18 year old club record. She also achieved Gold in 800/400m freestyle and Silver in the 100m fly.

May B in the Sixth Form swims in the open category at the event and achieved the following results:

Gold 50m Butterfly and Open County Champion 

Gold 100m Butterfly and Open County Champion (with an event best time)

Gold 200m Freestyle and Open County Champion

Silver 50m Freestyle 

Silver 400m Freestyle 

Bronze 50m Backstroke 

Well done to all our GBHS swimmers that competed at the county events, including Albert (Year 9) and Tom (Year 7) and many more. The final weekend of the competition is in mid February and we look forward to sharing even more of their successes with you.
