Mary Poppins - February 2023

In February 2023, the wind was in the East, a mist came in, and Mary Poppins flew into Baddow!

106 students from Year 7 to Year 13 worked tirelessly from the beginning of the academic year to bring our version of this beloved family classic to life. Following the inspirational direction of Miss Lyons, the students put on a spectacular show, unimaginably raising the bar from last years musical ‘We Will Rock You’ (2022).

From the complex dance-routine of Step In Time, to the three-part harmonies of Jolly Holiday, the students rose to the challenge of the musical and thrilled a combined audience of 1500 secondary/primary students, friends and family. With 26 songs, three big dance choreography numbers and pages of dialogue, the show was no small feat. The show even featured magic and illusions with the infamous bottom-less bag trick in Practically Perfect, kites flying in Lets Go Fly a Kite, a fireplace burning in The Nanny Letter and collapsible-then-repairable furniture in Spoonful of Sugar.

This musical was the last performance for some of our sixth formers who are now applying for prestigious theatre schools in London including Italia Conti. They have certainly left their creative stamp on the Drama and Music departments and performed memorable lead roles that have, without doubt, inspired our younger students. Our KS3 and KS4 students are already chomping-at-the-bit to start the next musical which will be revealed at a special launch event at the end of this academic year.

Until then, please take a look through the gallery of photos and enjoy the colourful costumes, incredible set and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious memories of Mary Poppins the Musical (2023).
