On 21st March Mr Shears and I took the U13 boys’ novice trampoline team to Gateshead Sports Centre to compete in the National Schools Trampoline final. Having competed successfully in two previous rounds, Blair H (Year 7), Marc G, Tom E and James R (all Year 8) were excited to show the judges how hard they had worked to perfect their routines. They were especially excited to be the first team to have successfully reached a national trampoline final.

A group of students in Years 10 to 13 has been busy working on entries for the UKAYRoC rocket building competition.

They have designed, built and tested two rockets with the aim of carrying a payload of two raw hen’s eggs to 825 feet. The rocket must then deploy two parachutes and return to the ground safely. The total flight time needs to be as close to 50 seconds as possible.

Connections

Drama students from Years nine and ten are participating in the Connections Theatre Event organised by The National Theatre. Tickets are available from the school office from Wednesday 5th March.

On 25th February, thirty five Year 7 and 8 students spent the day at Stow Maries Aerodrome a World War I airfield in the Essex countryside. As well as getting to look around the museum, some of the buildings that were used 100 years ago and some aircraft and vehicles that are being restored the students were there to experience a taster of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities.
